If you ever wondered what trends could come back from your childhood, look no further than the summer of 2017. Some of the most daring 90’s fashion trends are coming back in a big way this season and one of these is the mule! The mule is a slip-on shoe, preferably with a slight heel that can take your outfit effortlessly from office to crazy throwback disco parties the next. If you are on the lookout for a cleverly minimalist shoe that is both easy to wear and doesn’t have the uncomfortable straps of heels, then this is the shoe for you.
Now mules were hot in the summer, but they can take you through to early fall, especially if you choose ones with a closed toe. Nothing is sexier than a slip-on mule dangling off your foot and tantalisingly exposing the ankle…
The Raspberry Ripple

This year, its shown in varying shades of pink, with anything from a dark raspberry to just the palest of pastels. Their un-fussy design makes them ideal to pair with anything, but if you want to push the 90s trends further, why not try wearing them with some cut-off jeans, a spaghetti strap top and a houndstooth trench?
The Marie Antionette Elegant

These shoes are definitely more ladylike and look more like they were worn in Marie Antoinette France than the 90’s. The pale blue colour and kitten heel makes them work equally well with some more avant-garde looks, like culottes and a Breton top.
The No-Brainers

Want the ultimate, glam, no-effort shoe? This one is it. These slip-on mules take inspiration from the Gucci horse-bit mules that have been everywhere and worn by everyone this season. Worn with ripped jeans, these mules would automatically give your second-hand jeans the elevated tone of a pair of custom-made Isabel Marant ones.
The Geometric Guard

Kitten heels don’t have to be girly and cute. These understated, Matrix-y ones with a pointed toe could be the ideal companion to more formal suits or coats, and the universal black colour makes them the chameleon of your outfits, changing each one in turn with that wonderfully exposed heel. These are a little on the pricey side but can double up as booties if you live somewhere it doesn’t rain much.
The Slip-on Metallic

Still managing to squeeze in a late September holiday? These sliders in starstruck metallics can take you from beach to restaurant in a flash. With more and more designers taking to mules to give their looks the pared back, relaxed look, this is the shoe for lazy warm September days. The wide strap provides some stability, making this pair more akin with a sandal than a 90’s mule. The best part is that you don’t have to choose between the silver and the bronze- you can have both!
